His pioneering endeavor—the Garbage Project—which launched in 1973, paved the way for studying anthropology through looking at trash (the study was specifically started to see if they could prove richer Tucson, Arizona residents bought higher end products).
William started as a Mayan Archaeologist and taught at University of Arizona from 1971 until he retired.
